I've resumed work on HUMAN WRECKAGE, but don't expect it out anytime soon. While the plot is solid and the subject matter is right in my wheelhouse, this particular work has proven difficult to write. I've actually written three completely different versions of the first three chapters, not to mention the half dozen or so plot outlines and character sketches. I also put the work away and came back to it months later to try and get a different perspective on the story.
I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. I mean sure, it's a complex story with several layers and a whole web of subtext, but that's nothing I haven't dealt with before. Maybe I just can't decide on what angle to take. The possibilities seem exciting and endless, but it might be too much of a good thing. At any rate, I'm sure I'll figure it out and write something up to my standards.
In other news, I absolutely cannot wait to see the new SCARY STORIES movie this weekend. The film is based on the series of books which first exposed me to the Horror genre and, even all these years later, I still love the anthologies. Some other movies I'm looking forward to are IT:CHAPTER 2, ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP, and RAMBO: LAST BLOOD.
Remember, it's always to good day to read some fucked up shit!
