Survive the Holidaze

If you're like me, the holidays aren't for you. While you may feel obligated to spend money you don't have, hangout with people who annoy the hell out of you,

endure tired old carols wherever you go, eat a double-helping of dried out turkey, and force a shit-eating grin all the while, these movies (and alcohol) make this time of year a little more bearable.

5. Die Hard (1988)

NYPD Officer John McClane (played by Bruce Willis) visits his estranged wife in Los Angeles and attends a Christmas party at her place of work. Not long thereafter, all hell breaks loose, leaving John to clean up mess. With plenty of gunfire, fights, and explosions, this Action flick is a classic.

4. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

The final film from legendary Director Stanley Kubrick, Eyes Wide Shut is a stunning masterpiece with Dr. Bill Hartford (played by Tom Cruise) tumbling down the rabbit hole in pursuit of an obsession. Not a film to watch with children present, this film is intense with graphic depictions of sexuality.

3. The Ice Harvest (2005)

One of my all time favorites, the Ice Harvest (starring John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton) is a Christmas heist movie with some mafia elements in there for good measure. Directed by the late Harold Ramis, this movie is a can't miss for Dark Comedy fans.

2. Bad Santa (2003)

Billy Bob Thornton makes the list again, this time as the absolute worst department store Santa in history. He drinks, smokes, and robs the place blind. Hilarious from start to finish, this is the perfect movie for anyone who's not into the holidays.

1. A Christmas Horror Story (2015)

And here we finally at Number One. This movie has become a tradition in my family. It has everything: action, suspense, horror, and one hell of a twist. Then there's the fact that whole story is anchored by a memorable performance of one of Hollywood's best, Mr. William Shatner himself.
